marker float

marker float
1) large, brightly coloured floats used to mark a particular fishing area for angling. Usually cast out with an additional rod and reel apparatus, a lead weight on the end of the line, and the float running free. Once tension on the line is released the float surfaces and marks the fishing area
2) one of series of floats used to fix a gillnet at a certain depth
